The Process
1. Visit Animals
Once you arrive at one of our locations, feel free to visit with our cats and dogs. We encourage you to spend as much time as necessary to make the right choice for you and the pet. Our Adoption Counselor volunteer will give you as much background and behavioral information as is available. (Many of our animals are strays and other than the observance of volunteers and staff we have no former knowledge.) When you have decided on the right pet for you and your lifestyle, fill out an Adoption Application.
2. Application
Please complete our adoption application. Answer the questions fully and honestly in order for HOPE to match you with the right pet. We want our adoptions to be forever. Once complete, the counselor will review your application with you. Please be patient, we ask questions only to ensure as close to a perfect match as possible.
3. Sign Contract
After you have been approved for adoption the counselor will take you through the additional paperwork to complete the adoption. You will be asked to sign a contract. Please read the contract carefully. The counselor will review the vaccination and medical history of the pet and supply you with this information for you and your vet.
4. Adoption Fees
Our adoption fee is $90.00 for most pets. There is an additional $10.00 charge for a license fee for dogs. This fee includes spay/neuter, current vaccinations, a microchip and it’s registration, feline leukemia/aids tests for cats, 6 weeks of free pet insurance, a free in-home behavioral consultation for dogs with discounted follow-up in-home classes and a free veterinary wellness check.
5. Follow Up
Don’t think that once the adoption is complete that you are on your own. One of our counselors will follow-up with a “How’s it going?” phone call to help you with transitioning your pet into it’s new home. You will be provided with the counselor’s phone number and an email address if you have questions in the future. We encourage you to contact us with whatever concerns/issues may arise.
6. Send Photos
Send us a picture of the newest member of your family for our alumni page!
Testimonial
Latte is a great puppy and we are so glad we made the decision to adopt her. We want to thank you and the staff at Hope Animal Shelter for making the adoption process easy and comfortable. We stopped by three times to visit Latte before we actually adopted her and never did we feel pressured or unwanted there. It’s obvious Latte received great care while at Hope and because of that she is a happy, well adjusted puppy, who we are looking forward to growing old with.
