June Downing one of HOPE’s biggest supporters and adoption counselor extraordinaire passed away recently leaving her beloved dogs behind. Halle, one of her dogs is in need of a home where she can be the center of attention.
Halle had been in a shelter on the border most of her short life (about 2 years old at the time). Halle is now 4yrs, a very intelligent, beautiful, loving dog. She loves attention, loves to run, loves to lay around the house, and loves to be around people. She has been living with a friend, Sherry and her son Casper since June’s death.
Halle is an alpha dog and would probably do best as an only dog. If you have an interest in Halle please contact Fran.

Last week I went out to Pima Animal Care and Control to rescue a few senior cats I had seen the week before. When I got there I was told that the adoption room was closed and the staff veterinarian wanted all the cats sent out to rescue groups or killed (my word).
Well, I said I would take as many as I could. But, how could I leave some behind knowing their fate had been predetermined? After I looked into their eyes I knew I couldn’t. HOPE rescued all 60 cats that were residing in that room. We have some at the shelter and some in foster care. Only a few have a cold but the rest are all healthy. Makes you wonder….doesn’t it?
Please help us care for our new guests. Some are ready for adoption, some will need to get spayed/neutered, vaccinated and tested stretching our funds to the limit. You can send a check or donate online.

Every Wednesday through the month of November, HOPE will be at Petsmart as usual and in addition we will be doing adoptions at the Foothills Mall (near Ross).

I have some exciting news to tell you about. Our landlord has decided to give us the yard on the east side of the building. I am currently working on the plans for this space. We know we would like to move our isolation wards outside. Not only will this help with cross contamination but will also free up space in the current shelter for us to house more dogs. The research has just begun. This, of course means we will need funds and volunteers to help us build. I will continue to keep you updated and will let you know what our budget needs will be.

The Centennial Elementary K Kids presented HOPE with a check for $175, which was raised through a movie night at the school, where they sold popcorn and soda, and by selling temporary tattoos at their Family Fun Festival in December. K Kids is a Kiwanis club for kids in grades 1 through 5. Thank you to the K Kids and their faculty advisor, Lana Sage. Go Coyotes!!

Most of you know I’m very involved with Ben’s Bells. Ben’s Bells often travels to grieving communities to share Ben’s Bells with them as a symbol of our support and connectedness. Now our own community is grieving and we want to blanket this town with bells in memory of Christina, Gabe, John, Dorwin, Dorothy and Phyllis and in honor of Gabby, Pam, Ron and our other precious citizens. We will distribute 1,000 Ben’s Bells (the most we’ve ever done in one distribution) on Thursday morning at 7:00 a.m. WE NEED YOUR HELP TO GET THEM OUT! Hanging bells is a remarkable experience and I know it will touch you deeply. NBC will be filming the distribution on a segment with Brian Williams.
So, if you’ve ever wanted to hang bells, this is the time! They are distributed throughout the city for people to find and keep. It is an incredible experience. If you are someone who arrives at school very early, perhaps your boss will allow you to come in a little bit later. Everyone needs to arrive at the Ben’s Bell studio by 7:00 a.m. to pick up bells.

Nate is settling in wonderfully in his new home. He has also acquired a new name, Dash, both because he loves to dash from room to room, and also because he is so dashingly handsome. He and his new big brother, Bubbles, have decided to be friends and are getting along very well.
